President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s strong partnership with Germany, announcing new commitments to deepen economic, industrial, and technical cooperation between the two nations.

Speaking in Jubilee House on Monday (3 November) during bilateral discussions with visiting German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Mahama described Germany as “a steadfast and reliable partner” and said the visit marked a new chapter in Ghana–Germany relations built on “mutual respect, shared democratic values, and sustainable development.”

Mahama said discussions focused on expanding investment opportunities under Ghana’s Resetting Ghana Agenda, which aims to restore macroeconomic stability, rebuild investor confidence, and attract foreign investment.

“We are making tangible progress on our agenda,” he said. “Ghana remains committed to creating an enabling environment to attract German private sector investment, particularly within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).”

The president noted that Ghana, as the AfCFTA headquarters, provides a strategic gateway for German companies seeking access to Africa’s 1.3 billion-person market. Both leaders identified potential areas for collaboration in renewable energy, green industrialisation, digital transformation, and vocational skills development.

Mahama also commended ongoing cooperation between Ghana’s Ministry of Labour and leading German firms to enhance technical and vocational education and training (TVET), adding that an upcoming labour mobility agreement would allow young Ghanaians to take up structured employment in Germany.

“This will create opportunities for our youth while helping Germany meet its skilled labour needs,” he said.

Mahama added that Ghana–Germany relations were entering “a new phase” of collaboration involving not just governments, but also the private sector, civil society, and youth innovators.
