Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson stated, that inflation in Ghana is expected to conclude the year at approximately 6.5 %.

Speaking about the country’s economic outlook and the recently-presented 2026 Budget in a television interview on the programme, ‘PM Express’ broadcast by Joy News, Mr. Forson said the government has observed persistent inflationary pressures, but remains confident that with ongoing policy measures the rate will fall to around that level by year end.

“I expect inflation to end this year at around 6.5 %,” the Finance Minister affirmed.

He indicated that this projection underpins the assumptions used in the formulation of the 2026 Budget, which he joined Joy News to break down in detail.

In the interview, he outlined how the budget reflects efforts to balance fiscal consolidation with support for growth-oriented expenditure.

While providing a more in-depth explanation of the budget — covering revenue projections, expenditure priorities and financing strategies — Mr. Forson reiterated that one of the government’s key economic targets is to keep inflation in check and stabilize macroeconomic conditions.

Observers note that reducing inflation to the mid-single-digit range would mark a significant improvement from recent years, where inflation has been volatile and significantly higher.

If achieved, the 6.5 % level would improve purchasing-power stability for households and signal an improved economic environment.

However, analysts caution that achieving this target will depend on external and domestic factors — including commodity price shocks, exchange-rate movements, and the pace of domestic demand.

The government’s interventions, as outlined in the 2026 budget presentation, will thus be under close scrutiny.
