Sompa FM, Accra, has held a stakeholder engagement meeting with the Achimota District of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to strengthen collaboration and enhance public education on electricity service delivery.

The meeting, held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, sought to familiarise Sompa FM with the district management of ECG and deepen stakeholder engagement to ensure effective and accurate information dissemination to the public.

The Sompa FM delegation was led by the General Manager, Mrs. Akosua Ago Aboagye, and included Madam Claribel K. Arthur (Administrator), Mr. Nicholas Korang (Marketing Manager), and Mr. Jeremiah Simpson (Researcher).

ECG Achimota District was represented by Ing. Joseph Mensah Sowah (District Engineer), Sebastian Nii Ardey (District Technical Officer), Madam Philomina Pomakah (Customer Management Officer), Wilhelmina Augoye (District Accounts Officer), Lawrence Odei Larbie (District Materials and Transport Officer), Esther Lartey (Debt Management Officer), Madam Leticia Laretry (District Human Resource Officer) and Vashti Quarshie (secretary).

Addressing the meeting, Ing. Joseph Mensah Sowah outlined key challenges confronting ECG, including meter fraud, illegal connections, network tampering, and customer dishonesty, which he said continue to cause significant losses to the company. He explained that many power outages are human-induced but assured that ECG remains committed to resolving customer concerns promptly.

He appealed to Sompa FM to intensify public education, particularly against engaging unauthorised individuals for meter acquisition. He clarified that meter acquisition begins at ECG offices and is not as complicated as perceived. He added that ECG offers a Premium Service, which delivers meters within 24 hours after payment, and a Standard Service, which takes about two to three weeks.

Customer Management Officer, Madam Philomina Pomakah, highlighted challenges such as stolen accounts and meters, noting that the district records between 10 and 15 such cases daily. She also disclosed that some customers deliberately discard meters, especially postpaid meters, and stressed that meter transfer is prohibited despite persistent violations.

From the Sompa FM side, Mrs. Akosua Ago Aboagye and Mr. Nicholas Korang raised concerns frequently expressed by customers about alleged misconduct by some ECG staff, which sometimes leads to illegal transactions. They appealed to management to investigate such complaints and put preventive measures in place to protect the company’s image.

On behalf of Sompa FM, Madam Claribel K. Arthur expressed appreciation to ECG management for the warm reception and productive engagement.

In her remarks, Madam Leticia Laretry commended Sompa FM for initiating the meeting and lauded the growing collaboration between the media organisation and ECG.

The engagement ended with a mutual commitment from both institutions to work closely to enhance public education, transparency, and improved electricity service delivery.
