Financial and Tax Analyst Foster Oteng Amoako has defended the economic performance of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), urging Ghanaians to assess the administration based on conditions inherited and measures implemented since taking office.

His comments came in reaction to claims by the Minority Caucus that the recent decline in inflation under the NDC government is unrealistic and artificial.

Speaking with Ama Konadu in an interview ‘Adea Akye Abia’ morning show at Sompa Fm-Sunyani, Mr. Amoako said any fair evaluation of the economy must begin from the period the NDC assumed power and compare it to the current state of affairs.

According to him, the economy was struggling when the government took over, citing key economic indicators as evidence.

“The inflation rate was about 21-23% and as we speak it has dropped to single digit. Also the policy rate was around 28-29% and it is down to 15%,” Mr. Amoako explained.

However, he noted that within about a year and some months in office, government interventions have helped stabilize the economy.

“These are clear indicators that the economy has stabilized,” Amoako said, commending the administration for what he described as prudent measures that have improved economic performance.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama to address the nation in Parliament today, February 27, 2026, while both the Majority and Minority caucus will be on seat.
