Heath Goldfields has launched a five-year Community Development Plan aimed at transforming lives in its operational areas through investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure, enterprise development, and job creation.
The launch, held at Himan Methodist School Park in Prestea on Thursday, May 28, 2026, was under the theme: “A New Era of Growth, Opportunity and Hope: Our Commitment to Community Development.”
According to the company, the development plan is expected to improve the living conditions of residents across the divisional areas while creating sustainable economic opportunities for the people.
Management of the company noted that when Heath Goldfields took over the Prestea-Bogoso Mine, the mine was in a poor state, with unpaid workers, vandalized equipment, and operations shut down for more than two years.
The closure of the mine affected livelihoods in the community and caused many residents to lose hope. However, the company says the mine has now resumed operations through the hard work of employees and the support of traditional leaders and residents.
Heath Goldfields revealed that the mine currently supports about 1,500 jobs, helping to restore income to families within the community. The company also disclosed that within five months of operations, about GH¢150 million had been spent on supporting local contractors and suppliers.
As part of the five-year development agenda, the company plans to establish a nursing training college in Prestea to improve healthcare delivery. Other proposed projects include the construction of a community centre in Bogoso, the establishment of vocational and technical schools, and the construction of markets and other infrastructure projects.
Community members welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that the projects would bring lasting development and improve the socio-economic conditions of the people in the area.
