During the period of Christ, He encountered a lot of politicians and more often than not (in the form of Herodians, Scribes, Pharisees, and Sadducees).
They always came with a purpose; not to become a disciple or to listen to the teachings of the Son-of-Man but to find him culpable to the laws or have Him (Christ) commit Himself in an utterance.
All these several encounters proved futile and frustrating to the point that eventually, they plotted His assassination (John 11:47-48, 53).
The most notable of their earlier schemes to have Christ falter was the question on tax (Matthew 22:15-22). “Give unto Caesar, what is Caesar’s and give unto God, what is God’s” has become a popular quote today as it is used in whatever way that suits a man, both believers and nonbelievers.
To give unto Caesar is to give the government an enabling environment to work and thus have every right to demand results. Likewise, they came to Christ with a tricky question knowing very well that He will give them an answer.
Jesus by this statement says that as citizens we must perform our civic responsibilities and also demand from the government what is due to the citizens. No one of the two is more important than the other.
Christ openly questioned these politicians publicly and they always found themselves ashamed and exposed. They were uncomfortable with Christ. But is the situation the same today?
Unfortunately, not so. The church today is in bed with the harlot, drinks with her in the glass of lies and wrought in her adulterous schemes. And so today, politicians have no regard for Men-of-God; the very people who emulate and represent Christ.
Politicians sit publicly and question the credibility and mandate of pastors in the country because they (the politicians) have succeeded in defiling certain Men-of-God. And the glaring effect is what we see in the lives of Christians, and the citizens of the nation.
Their confidence in the government is lost and their faith wavering because the light of the world they looked up to has been made a Baphomet.
They question if the light was Christ or a mirage. And if light is one with darkness, then where lies the hope in the church?
This is indeed a hopeless situation! If a member who gives birth out of wedlock is made an example to other members; pastor, what of the politician with two wives and children with more than seven women doing on your pulpit?
By the mere invitation to your pulpit, you have endorsed his political ambition and not only that. You have also endorsed his lifestyle, sexual choices, and his every utterance.
Mordechai didn’t coach or endorse any lady who didn’t subject herself to him except Esther, who saw Mordechai as her lord; listening and doing as he directed (Esther 1).
If the politician is only coming to church during the period of election and he's welcomed but the pastor doesn’t give him the platform. He wants an endorsement; hence will give an offering and later name it as bribe.
He will go back and publicly disgrace you that you are not genuine but interestingly, he (the politician) is.
The church must rise again, the church must be bold again and call what is wrong as it is.
Many great men and women of God are silent because they are embroiled in a National Cathedral scandal. Now, the pastor cannot speak up as members live a wayward lifestyles.
The flock is being misled. People of God, rise and put the system of governance back on its toes. The politicians listen to you because the voters are with you. Let us lift the lowering standards again and make our nation work, it is possible.
The nation will work if the church will put the politicians on their toes. The politician who isn’t working shouldn’t be comfortable meeting a man of God, and absolutely dread entering the church.
They must know if you are not serving the country as you should, the church will not back you and neither will the church be silent.
