Dr Philip Ohemeng Anokye, clinic coordinator for the Chiraa Government hospital in the Sunyani West municipality of the Bono region has said, Christmas is a season of joy, merry making increases therefore people must be reminded that they are what they eat.
Dr Anokye said, the choices that we make at the Christmas tables and dinners can either give us energy or emergencies.
"Your body doesn't know Christmas - it only knows what you feed it." Christmas food enters the Bloodstream, Not the Dustbin", he noted.
"What you eat affect your blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, kidney and immunity."
Dr Anokye cautioned, "after the Christmas party, your organs do real work- do not compete with food.
"Christmas is one day, not a food marathon. Enjoy your favorites, but start small. You can taste everything without finishing everything", he stressed whilst speaking to Sompa FM on the sidelines of education about the five golden rules to eating healthy diets in the Yuletide.
Commenting on the consumption of vegetables, the health proffessional said, "half your plate must be vegetables and fruits. They help to digest and control overeating, adding, "vegetables and fruits are not decoration. They are medicine on the plate."
Dr Anokye charged Christmas celebrants to choose one food, reduce the mounds and increase the soup and vegetables.
He said opting for grilled, boiled , or stewed meats will be beneficial to their health.
He indicated, people should start their meals with water, and drink between bites. "If you drink alcohol, go slow and never on an empty stomach." "Your liver is not on Christmas break", he emphasized.
