The Sunyani Teaching Hospital has strengthened its healthcare delivery with the addition of new specialist doctors, a move aimed at improving patient care and meeting rising public expectations.
The Acting Director of Administration at the facility, Samuel Dodzi, said the transition to a teaching hospital has significantly raised expectations among residents, prompting management to take steps to enhance service delivery.
According to him, the hospital has recruited experienced doctors from other health facilities to boost capacity and ensure quality care for patients in the Bono Region and beyond.
“Now that we are a teaching hospital, expectations from the community are high, and we must rise to meet them. Bringing in new doctors is part of our effort to improve service delivery,” he stated.
Mr. Dodzi noted that the newly recruited doctors are supporting critical specialist areas, including surgery and cardiovascular care, among others.
He explained that this intervention is expected to reduce referrals and improve treatment outcomes at the facility.
Speaking on the Wednesday edition of Sompa FM in Sunyani, ‘Ade Akye Abia’ programme, hosted by Ama Konadu, Mr. Dodzi further disclosed that the hospital has introduced a 24-hour Out-Patient Department (OPD) service.
“We are now running a 24-hour OPD service, so patients can access care at any time of the day,” he added.
The move forms part of broader efforts by the hospital to position itself as a leading centre for medical training and specialist healthcare in the region.
