Dr Thomas Kyere, a Health Consultant at the Sunyani branch of the 21st Clinic, a facility that specializes in sciatica and other health-related conditions has warned young girls against unsafe abortion.

He emphasised that applying herbal concoctions, unapproved drugs and harmful substances to terminate pregnancies was hazardous and ended in serious health complications and even death.

Speaking in an interview with Sompa FM Sunyani, Dr Kyere said many girls had died as a result of unsafe abortion, asking those who intended to terminate “unwanted” pregnancies to visit nearest health facilities.

He said challenges like societal stigmatization and discrimination as well as social exclusion and fear, and poverty ought not to be reasons for pregnant girls to resort to unsafe abortion.

“Using incorrect medical procedures to terminate pregnancy is very dangerous to the body system and one can possibly die in the process”, Dr Kyere advised.
