KUMASI, Ghana, 13 June 2022 – The Volunteers for Muslim Youth Empowerment and Development, condemn in the strongest terms the horrendous attack on Students of Islamic Senior High School, by the Ghana Police, in Kumasi, in the early hours of today, Monday, 13 June, 2022.
Students went on the streets to protest over frequent road accidents at the main entrance of the school, when the alleged shooting happened. This discussion is not about whether the demonstration was authorized or not, but the unprofessional act of some police personnel.
The duty of the Security service is to protect life and property of the citizens, we do not see the need for the usage of teargas and bullets on unarmed students.
We condemn in the strongest possible terms this vicious attack on students.
We empathize with the students, their family, school authority, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
We express our grave concern about the significant implications of this attack on the safety and mental health of the students.
We, as a leading youth organisation, are committed towards the continuous development of the Ghanaian Youth, of which students from the Institution have been actively engaged in our capacity training.
Also, we call on the students, to restrain and allow the leadership of the school and Police take charge and investigate.
We request an effective full-scale investigation into this incident, as soon as possible.
The End.
