Five teenagers between the ages of 11 to 18years have escaped beatings from community members of Ekumfi Immuna in the Ekumfi District in the Central Region after breaking into different provision shops to steal at midnight.
A report by Sompa TV's Eric Annan reveals that the suspects, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, around 12:00am maneuvered their way into three shops to steal provisions and money worth hundreds of Ghana Cedis.
Items stolen include soft drinks, gari, sugar, milo, biscuits, sardines, flashlights, yumvita, among others.
Residents who witnessed the act, recounted to be in their rooms when they heard someone breaking the padlock of a store, hence stroke their attention to rush to the scene, only to find three boys stealing from the store.
According to them, upon reaching the scene, behold the boys with a bag in which they had packed all the stolen items.
They narrated that in other not to take the law into their hands, they grabbed and sent the boys to the Chief's Palace.
Isaac Aggrey Atta, a Community Police Officer who assisted in dragging the suspected thieves to the palace, assured to ensure that enough security is provided to protect the property of residents in the area.
Nana Odwirey Ababio Vll, Chief of Ekumfi Immuna in an interview condemned the act to note that this isn't the first time such incident has happened in the Community.
He said that the rate at which residents of late complains of losing their items to thieves, beats his imagination.
The chief asserted to have the law take its due course on the suspects by sending them to the juvenile cells and advised parents to keep a close eye on their wards by training them to stay far from stealing.
The suspects when interrogated on their misconduct, said to have been sent by their masters (two in number), who on the other hand denied ever engaging the boys to indulge in any of such act.
Suspects are currently at the police station, assisting in investigations.
