New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate (PC) of Oforikrom Constituency for the 2024 general elections, Michael Kwasi Aidoo has commended the Oforikrom SDA Church of the Amakom District of the South Central Ghana Conference for the establishment of an Education Fund for the church members.
According to him, the creation and the launch of the education fund by the church would soon be emulated and given critical attention so that the inhabitants of the constituency would access the fund when the need arises.
The incoming Oforkrom Member of Parliament made the call when a 71 year old elder of the Church, Elder James Opuni Kesson as part of the commemoration of his birthday established an Education Fund for the Church to ensure the needy but challenged students could also get education in life.
Mr. Michael Kwasi Aidoo who was enthused over the development said the initiative fall in line with the government Free SHS programme where over 5.7 million students have benefitted since the inception in 2017. He disclosed the introduction of the Free SHS has seen girl child education tremendously improved to the extent that the girl child enrolment has over taken that of the male child education.
He therefore pleaded to the church to vote for the NPP candidate Dr. Bawumia and ensure the free SHS programme continued for the benefits of the future generation.
He told the gathering Adventists, “I want to assure you that once I am elected as the Member of Parliament, I would establish an Education Fund for the well-being of every child in the constituency. I don’t want to see any child with interest in education becoming a dropout. My vision apart from the vision of NPP in making education free at the SHS level, is to ensure my constituents get the best scholars for the human resource of the country.”
Speaking to SOMPA NEWS, Elder James Opuni Kesson said he was moved by the lack of support he was denied as a child to pursue education adding he does not want the future students to experience his fate hence the establishment. He explained the fund would among other functions provide support such as books, provisions and even transport for the needy church members who are brilliant but lack support.
