The Upper Denkyira East Constituency Chairman of the NDC, John Swanzy arhin, has identified recent publications by a cross section of the media as promoting illegal mining in the area as untrue.
Mr. John Swanzy arhin disclosed this in an interview with the media in Cape Coast of the Central Region.
Addressing the media, Mr Swanzy Arhin was emphatic that he is in full support of the government's fight against illegal mining activities that don't just pollute water bodies in the area but also pose threat to lives of the citizenry in the community.
Hence, he together with the Municipal Assembly and some traditional rulers have since the assumption of the NDC government been patrolling the community to advice those in such nefarious deeds to desist from such deeds.
Mr. Swanzy Arhin, however, lamented about the fact that some selfish individuals have been robbing some miners in the area of gold and monies in disguise of being National Security members just after the 2024 elections.
Such deeds, he pointed out have led those who helped the NDC to win this year's election to regret doing that.
Based on this and other reasons, he noted, led him to notify his subordinates, Sidi Mohammed when he heard about the presence of the alleged military men at Dunkwa-On-Offin when he was at Bogoso, to go and find out if the said security men were really military officers.
This, move according to the chairman, did not please the military officers. Hence the assault on the man that he had sent. Mr. John Swanzy Arhin noted he had his share of the assault when he suggested that his boy be taken to the police station at Dunkwa- on- offin for further interrogations.
He added that it took the timely intervention of his school mate, Erastus Asare Donkor, Joy FM Reporter who was with the military to spare him.
He disclosed that the military finally abandoned his 37 year old subordinate, Sidi Mohammed under a bridge that is located between the Central and the Ashanti regions.
Chairman John Swanzy Arhin noted that much as he is in supports of efforts of the military in combatting illegal mining activities in the country, they need to refrain from deeds that can negatively affect the level of peace in the country.
