Astute Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist, Ibrahim Mahama has donated variety of food stuffs in support to inmates, especially Muslims of the Ankaful Maximum Prison in the Central Region for the celebration of Ramadan.
The items received on Thursday, March 20th by authorities of the prison was donated through the Interior Ministry headed by Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.
The donated items seeks to offer inmates enough food comfort in this holy period of Ramadan, judging from the prison's food insecurity.
Ibrahim Mahama being the devoted Muslim he's known for, saw the need to assist Muslim inmates of the Maximum Prison with food in other to partake fully in fasting during this Ramadan period.
Checks reveal that the Ankaful Maximum Prison actually adds to the several prisons across the country the Ghanaian businessman has selected to donate to during this month of Ramadan.
Donated items to the prison include 150 bags of rice, 60 bottles of oil, 30 boxes of tin tomatoes, and 30 boxes of mackerel.
Abdulai Amo, the NDC Central Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator who on behalf of the Central Regional Minister presented the donated items to the prison for Ibrahim Mahama, expressed excitement in selecting the Region for the donation, coupled with the help the donated items sort to offer inmates of the Ankaful Maximum Prison upon series of reported complains on food.
Central Regional Commander for the Prisons Service, CDD Alfred Cudjoe, relayed the Prison Service's profound gratitude to Ibrahim Mahama and the Interior Minister for the generous act of kindness to inmates of the prison.
He noted that the donated items were timely offered to supplement the woefully inadequate food proportion to prisoners which still sits at GH¢1.80 pesewas a day for adult inmates. Adding that the food items donated will offer inmates something to enjoy, particularly on the eve of Ramadan.
CDD Alfred Cudjoe, additionally, appealed on government to come to the aid of the Regional Prison Service with a car, since personnel of the Service often transport on-trial inmates to court and also hospital on daily basis for treatment and court appearances.
He further pleaded on government for the completion of the phase 2 of the Ankaful Maximum Prison project which has been abandoned for over 10 years now. Hence, denting the proper reformation process of the prison to its 1,370 inmates.
