The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Central Region has charged the general public to draw much attention in prioritizing the safety of every food they intend to consume, particularly during the forthcoming Easter festivity.
The food regulatory authority has entreated Ghanaians to be clear-eyed on whatever product they purchase, since retrospective festive seasons have witnessed surge in food poisoning with expired products.
Speaking in a media engagement, Ms. Francisca Anokye, the Central Regional FDA Director urged the citizenry to see to it that every pre-packaged product they purchase during this Easter period is well examined, taking into account the product's expiry date.
For can products, she implored the public to carefully carry out a thorough inspection to verify that the product to be purchased isn't in any state of rust or corrosion, either has it experience any form of torn in case the said product is packaged in a box and is free from bacteria.
She further conscientized the public to always consider the surroundings of every ready-to-eat food during this Easter festivity and also seek to establish whether the eatery visited has acquired a food hygiene permit in other to clamp down on food related-diseases.
Ms. Francisca Anokye reiterated that the Regional FDA Directorate have as well laid down proactive measures to ensure food safety among the populist, specially during Easter, through its undertaken market surveillance, among several other activities embarked upon.
Additionally, the Central Regional FDA boss recounted that ensuring food safety for the promotion of a healthy life among Ghanaians, is a collective responsibility, thus the need for all and sundry to wholly collaborate with the Authority and for the public to be vigilant in its market purchases.
She, however, cautioned individuals who have made it a point to trade prohibited goods to the public during this Easter, to fasten their belts to face the law of the country which frowns on the sales of expired and contraband goods.
