The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, has vehemently voiced out his displeasure over the unlawful dealings associated to the selling of premix fuel to fisherfolks in the metropolis.

He has vouched never to support any irregularities in connection to premix fuel sales under his tenure as Mayor of Cape Coast.

According to the Cape Coast Mayor, his leadership will under no circumstance entertain any landing beach committee member whose action offends the law devoid of the person's political affiliation as a National Democratic Congress (NDC) member or otherwise.

Hon. George Justice Arthur disclosed this at the event earmarked for inaugurating a seven-member landing beach committee for each of Cape Coast six landing sites which comprises; Ola, Duakor, Brofoyedur, Abrofompoano, Ekon, and Bakaano.

The activity carried out on Monday at the Cape Coast Metro Assembly, was made possible by the Presidential Aide to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development with advise on Indigenous Knowledge and Traditional Practices.

The Mayor affirmed that since the committee is regulated by law, he will ensure that anyone who goes contrary to the set mandate, faces the full rigours of the law without fear or favour.

Thus, compelled members of the committee to strictly comply to the regulation of 53% profit on sales of the premix fuel to be used for community project with the remaining 47% going on to those assigned for selling the fuel.

Mr. John Quayson 'Manoma', the Presidential Aide to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development with advise on Indigenous Knowledge and Traditional Practices, admonished members of the committee that the premix fuel to which the committee has been formed, isn't theirs but rather for fishermen who depends on the fuel for their daily fishing activities.

He further observed the importance of the landing beach committee to the people of Cape Coast. Adding that President John Dramani Mahama as part of his resetting agenda, deemed it fit to have the country's coastal belt experience a wind of change, capable of turning its fortunes around, particularly on fishing.

Ghana under previous governments has battled illegalities with sales on premix fuel, particularly on fuel hoarding, smuggling of premix fuel, corrupt distribution of fuel, overpricing, among many others. Hence the inauguration of the landing beach committee to see to these irregularities and also steer the affairs of regulating the flow of premix fuel to fisherfolks.
