Director for the Central Regional Department of Gender, Ms. Richlove Amamoo has pleaded on the government of Ghana to put in place measures feasible enough to attract more women into the field of agribusiness in the country.
According to her, since the need of women differs from that of men, it's imperative that the nation lower its stands on loan accessibility to women--considering their needs and vulnerability in the society.
Ms. Richlove Amamoo emphasized that to encourage enough women into the Ghanaian agribusiness sector, the state ought to have a flexible access on loans to women in the country--devoid of collateral with low interest rates.
She made this plea at the finals of the Miss Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Contest organized by the Agribusiness Students' Association of the University of Cape Coast, dubbed, "Seeds of Innovation: Empowering Women in Agribusiness."
The contest saw seven (7) elegant agribusiness students of UCC compete for the crown and ultimate cash prize of GH¢10,000 with exciting takeaways through innovative business ideas in agriculture which they aims to nurture into multi-million business ventures.
The Regional Director of Gender observed that the actualization of such incentive, will well position women to be seen as agents of change, since women plays crucial role in the country's agribusiness, particularly to food security.
Speaking at the contest, Dr. Peter Omega, the Regional Director for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture admonished that farming should be a business and not an ancient way of doing things.
He charged contestants of the competition and all gathered at the event to strive and start something in agribusiness no matter how small it may seem and gradually nurture it into a bigger venture to serve as a demonstration path for the younger ones to see and follow suit.
Vicential Konamah Agyapong, winner of the contest together with the 1st Runner-Up, expressed excitement over the contest but beseeched cooperate society and the state for financial help to assist them turn their agribusiness dreams into reality.
