Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang led a high-level government delegation on a solemn mission to pay condolence visits to the bereaved families of five prominent individuals who tragically lost their lives in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

The dignified visits, which followed a state funeral held last Friday, aimed to offer solace and reassure the families of the government's unflinching support during this trying period.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang, who is currently acting as President in the absence of President John Dramani Mahama, held private audiences with each family, listening attentively to their concerns and conveying the country's heartfelt condolences. The families visited included those of Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO); Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Deputy National Security Coordinator (Human Security); Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, former Defence Minister; and Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, former Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.

The Vice President reiterated the government's commitment to working in tandem with the families to address their welfare needs, with a particular focus on supporting the widows and children left behind.

The government delegation, comprising notable figures such as Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff; Dr. Valarie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs; Alex Sebgefia Chief of Staff at the office of the Vice President and Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the NDC, among others, was warmly received by the bereaved families.

A spokesman for the Limuna family expressed profound gratitude to the government, describing the courtesy visits as comforting and heartwarming, and acknowledging that the outpouring of national support had strengthened their resolve during this challenging time.

"The visits have strengthened the family following the outpouring of national support," he said, underscoring the significance of the gesture.
