Mafaatih Wunnam Alidu-Cotachi proudly won 6th position in The Chinese Bridge Competition in China.
This is an annual global event that showcases foreign students' proficiency in the Chinese language and culture.
It is a global initiative by the Chinese government, promoting cultural exchange, Chinese language learning, and cultural understanding. This annual international contest allows non-Chinese students to showcase their Chinese language proficiency and knowledge of Chinese culture.
Wunnam, a student from the University of Cape Coast Primary School represented Ghana among 76 participating countries in this year's competition after sailing through the preliminary, semi-finals, and the global finals.
The preliminary round was held among students within Cape Coast, with which Mafaatih Wunnam Alidu-Cotachi came first in the basic school category. That made him and the first and second running up qualified for semi-finals.
The semi-finals comprised the top three performances from each region of Ghana, which was hosted by the University of Cape Coast Confucius Institute. Mafaatih Wunnam did not only win the overall, but also the best in speech and talent categories. Thus, he was selected to represent Ghana for the global final, which was held in Beijing, China.
The global final was held from 17th to 28th of September, 2025. The two weeks period was marked with various activities. Each day activity was considered to be part of the contest where the contestants' ability to socialize and interact with other participants was keenly observed by the judges.
On Sunday, September 21, 2025, the contestants were given a stage to justify their inclusion, where out of the 76 contestants representing their various countries. Mafaatih made it to the first 15th best.
The 15 contestants were again given another stage performance on the 24th of September, 2025, where Mafaatih emerged on the 6th position globally and the best in Africa.
