Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, she noted that the Ministry is still awaiting the disbursement of GHC10 million to implement the last quarter’s feeding approval.

“In these few months, various steps have been taken as enumerated in the status of implementation.

“We proposed GHC10 and we were granted GHC5 and after consultations, the President instructed that the amount should be increased to GHC5 and that the amount of GHC 10 million which was supposed to cover the last quarter of the year was to be released but it is yet to be released even though the approval has been given,” she stated.

The Interior Ministry explained the increment is aimed at improving nutrition and easing pressure on the Ghana Prisons Service, which has long struggled with inadequate funding for meals.

Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie stressed that the Prisons Service in the meantime has initiated the Director-General Kitchen Support Project to support feeding of inmates across prison facilities in the country.

“As a Directorate, we have come together to bring about a project we call the Director-General Kitchen Support Project and in that project, all prison facilities across the country are supposed to have gardens, a small fish pond, a poultry or something related to animal husbandry which is supposed to support the feeding of inmates. Once a while, the churches have also supported.

“Efforts are being made to get the money into our accounts and then a formal communication to that effect,” she added.
