C/R: FDA Safely Destroys Unwholesome Products Collected through Robust Market Surveillance

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Central Region has through its tireless effort to ensure consumer safety, has destroyed a number of unwholesome products on Friday, October 3, in Cape Coast.

Approximately 2.9 tonnes of goods were safely disposed at the Nkanfoa landfill site after being seized from warehouses, pharmacies, and supermarkets through routine market surveillance.

FDA in its safe disposal exercise, carried out the activity together with the Waste Management Authority to ensure the proper destruction of the goods.

Ms. Francisca Abena Asubonteng Anokye, the FDA Central Regional Director in an engagement with the media after the exercise, disclosed that the disposed of products worth GH¢29,435, comprised of food, cosmetics, drugs, and household chemicals.

According to her, the seizure and safe disposal of these products were due to product expiry, unsafe storage conditions and unregistered product.

The Central Regional FDA Director further emphasized the importance of consumer vigilance, advising the public to check expiry dates and product wholesomeness before making purchases.

She again appealed on wholesale factories to consider their factory space and fill it with the necessary products it can contain and not pile the space up with oversized goods.
