A swift intervention by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has prevented what could have been a devastating inferno at Kantamanto Tazani Lane near Ecobank in Accra in the early hours of Tuesday, 21 October 2025.

The service received a distress call at 1:31 a.m. and quickly dispatched a team, with the first engine arriving at 1:42 a.m.

Seven fire engines and a turntable ladder were mobilised from stations across the capital—including Circle, Industrial Area, Madina, Legon, the Accra Regional Headquarters, and two appliances from the National Headquarters—to battle the blaze that had engulfed parts of the busy commercial area.

Firefighters worked tirelessly through the night to contain the fire, finally confining it at 4:49 a.m.

The Acting Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, together with the Director of Operations, the Greater Accra Regional Commander, and other senior officers, was present to oversee the response and provide strategic guidance.

Although no fatalities were recorded, one firefighter sustained smoke inhalation and asphyxiation during the operation. He was immediately given first aid and transported to the hospital by the National Ambulance Service.

The GNFS has since assured the public that follow-up operations are ongoing to ensure the fire is fully extinguished and to assess the extent of damage to affected properties.

The service commended its personnel for their professionalism and swift response, which prevented the fire from spreading to nearby structures and causing further losses.
