Ghana’s former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has passed away at the age of 77.

 

According to sources close to the family, she passed away in the early hours of Thursday, 23 October, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra. She was born on the November 17, 1948 in Cape Coast, Central Region.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official communication from the Rawlings family or government representatives.

Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, has been a towering figure in Ghana’s political and social landscape.

She founded the National Democratic Party (NDP) after she left the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and was widely recognised for her strong advocacy on women’s empowerment and social development.

Tributes have begun pouring in from across the country as Ghanaians mourn the loss of one of the nation’s most influential women.
