Gov’t commiserates with family of late Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings

The government has expressed its deepest condolences to the family of the late Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.

Former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, died at the Ridge Hospital at the age of 76.

Family sources say she passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Nana Konadu, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was a prominent political figure and a leading advocate for women’s empowerment. She served as First Lady from 1979 to 2001 and in 2016 became the first woman to contest the presidency in Ghana’s history.

The government in a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson to the President and minister of communication said,” Government announces with deep regret and profound sorrow, the untimely passing of former first lady and founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.”

“Government extends its deepest condolences to her immediate family”, the statement added.

Meanwhile, Tributes have begun pouring in from across the country as Ghanaians mourn the loss of one of the nation’s most influential women.
