The bereaved family of the 35-year-old tenant who was stabbed to death by his landlord at Awerempe in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region has appealed for the intervention of the Inspector General of Police (IGP for the released of the body.
According to a police statement, the deceased Bright Abotsi, a cobbler, was stabbed to death by suspect Yaw Owusu, 43 years old over a misunderstanding.
The incident happened Friday November 7, 2025 and the deceased body had since been deposited at the Berekum Holy Family Catholic Hospital for preservation and autopsy, as the police prosecuted the suspect.
However, speaking in an interview with Sompa FM in Sunyani, Madam Akua Abotsi, the deceased elder sister, and spokesperson said the family required the intervention of the IPG because they could not afford to pay for GHC4,000 post mortem medical bills as required by the police.
She said the family required the body to perform the burial and subsequent funeral rites and to relieve them of the emotional pains, worrying that “as we speak now our mother is still in shock”.
Mad Abotsi also called on the police administration to be expeditious in their investigations to serve the deceased and the family justice.
