The Former President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his deep sorrow following the tragic deaths of six potential recruits into the Ghana Armed Forces.

The incident occurred at the El Wak Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, during a recruitment exercise, leading to several others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Thursday, the Former President said he received the devastating news upon his return from Angola.

However, the injured recruits are currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

“I convey to the bereaved families my deep condolences and wish the potential recruits in hospital a rapid recovery from their injuries, and indeed, from the accompanying trauma to all who were at the El Wak Stadium,” Akufo-Addo wrote.

He further extended his sympathy to the parents, guardians, and loved ones of the victims, expressing hope that “each day will bring renewed strength.”

The Former President concluded his message with a prayer: “May the Lord be with us all at this difficult moment.”

Meanwhile, acting minister for defence, Cassiel Ato Forson has disclosed that an internal board of the Ghana Armed Forces has been set up to investigate the cause of the deaths and injuries.
