The Central Regional Head for the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Madam Nicholina Naa Yeye Edumuah has reminded drivers and property owners to comply with compulsory insurance regulations such as motor and fire insurance, as non-compliance to them is punishable by law.

This caution comes ahead of the Christmas festivity, a time when accidents and fires are more likely to occur.

Speaking at a media engagement, Madam Nicholina encouraged individuals on the adherence to compulsory insurance covers, as she emphasized to be laid down sanctions to check citizenry on compliance to such regulation.

The Central Regional NIC Boss on penalties one stands to attract for non-compliance to compulsory insurance, highlighted that defaulters to this regulation risk to face fines, imprisonment or both, thus the need to treat this topic with all the necessary attention it deserves.

To avoid facing sanctions, drivers and property owners are entreated to have the necessary insurance coverage prior to the Christmas festivity.

The NIC in ensuring effective compliance to compulsory insurance coverage by the public, has been conducting enforcement exercises, inspecting commercial properties and vehicles.

She further seized the opportunity to implore the public to consider having their properties covered by comprehensive insurance packages, particularly to farmers since there is the agric insurance to cater for their farm produce should any unexpected incident occur.

Madam Nicholina Naa Yeye Edumuah again called on the public to reach out to NIC should they require any support or education with regards to insurance claim or cover.
