Vincent Antwi Agyei, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Sunyani has offered sympathy to the victims of the Monday morning fire disaster that occurred at the Central business district of the city.

The MCE, said the visit was to offer him the opportunity to assess the situation.
He also commended the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) for their swift response, saying they exhibited professionalism in bringing the situation under control.

"I visited the scene of the fire outbreak around Zongo One Way (Achees Hardware) to commiserate with those affected and to assess the situation firsthand. My thoughts are with the victims during this difficult time. I also commend the Ghana National Fire Service for their swift response and professionalism in bringing the situation under control", The MCE said in a Facebook post.

Traders, shop and stores owners in the Sunyani Business District (CBD) enclave could not hide their tears, when fire razed their shops in the early hours of Monday.

They, visibly anxious victims of the fire, were left in a state of despair, as the inferno spread to shops and stores, attracting scores of people to the scene.

Many of the shop and store owners had not reported to work, when the fire started around 0800 hours.

However, some of them who had opened their shops managed to retrieve some of their items from the fire, which gutted the compound house that contained the shops and stores.

Achie’s Hardware, dealers in building and construction materials, was the worst affected store as the buckets of paints exploded intermittently in the full glare of the affected traders and onlookers.

When the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the scene, the fire had already assumed serious dimensions, however, the fire fighters managed to bring the situation under control.
No casualty was however reported and the cause of the fire remain unknown for now.
