Sow No Seed Without Weather Update- Agric Director Caution Farmers

The District Director of Agriculture at the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality in the Central Region, Madam Victoria Abankwa has urged farmers within the enclave, particularly those at the Komenda community to always relay on weather updates to assist them decide when and how to plant their seeds at any given whether condition.

‎The Agric Director highlighted the importance on farmers staying informed about weather conditions to avoid crop failure and ensure good yields.

‎She made this expression at the 3rd annual anniversary of the Komenda Farmers Growers Association earmarked on the theme, "Sowing Seeds of Prosperity: Empowering Agriculture for a Brighter Future."

‎Stressing how essential farmers should prioritize whether update, Madam Abankwa emphasized that by doing so, farmers can manage farming risks to prepare adequately against extreme weather events, device a guide to choose suitable crops for the forecasted weather and plant at the right time to maximize rainfall or avoid drought for improved harvest.

‎Madam Abankwa again admonished that farming has now grown past the old methodology it use operate under to a modernize state where improved varieties with climate smart seeds which can withstand any climate change now reigns. 

‎She chanced on the opportunity to implore farmers to desist from the attitude of keeping 'ready for harvest' farm produce at the field for far too long, since it exposes their yields to insects to feast on, but advised farmers to cultivate on time and store their farm produce under safe storage conditions for sale at a more convenient and beneficial period.

‎Mr. Emmanuel Acquah, President for Komenda Farmers Growers Association in an interaction with Sompa TV's Eric Annan relayed the union's confronted challenges with respect to financial constraints.

‎He expressed the association's unflinching commitment to food security in the country through its zeal to produce more than enough farm produce for Ghana to benefit of, but made a clarion appeal to the government and corporate entities for financial support in its budget of GH¢500,000, proposed for the accomplishment of its set targets in 2026. 

‎The association in its 3rd annual anniversary has set before itself to sow large scale of maize, cassava, beans, potatoes, yam and vegetables from its solicited funds budgeted, having boost of vast farm land to accomodate the cultivation of these farm produce.
