Galamsey: Chiefs, people of Tanoso unhappy about pollution of Tano River

The chiefs and people of Tanoso in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region have expressed concern about the wanton pollution and destruction of the Tano River by some illegal miners around the river course.
Okyeame Yaw Boakye, the Linguist of Obrempong Kyei Baffour I, the Chief of Tanoso raised the concerns, calling for urgent measures to preserve the river.
Speaking on the Thursday edition of the Sompa FM ‘ADE AKYE ABIA’ morning show hosted by Ama Konadu in Sunyani, Okyeame Boakye said the chiefs and made several complaints to the Tano North Municipal Assembly, but the condition of the river continued to worsen.
Okyeame Boakye regretted that some land owners had connived with some illegal miners, prospecting and extracting gold around the river’s enclave and polluting the water body.
