Three people have lost their lives following a tragic accident on the Offin River Bridge in the Ashanti Region.

The incident involved a heavy truck loaded with metal colliding with a smaller truck transporting oil and sleeper materials. The impact resulted in a fire that completely burnt the smaller truck to ashes, leading to the deaths of all occupants onboard.

The accident caused a major road blockage, disrupting traffic flow for several hours.

Speaking to the media, the Afigya Kwabre North Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Kwame Yaro, expressed deep concern over the increasing frequency of such incidents, calling for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations.

“My concern is that the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) must be more vigilant and pay closer attention to the people they issue licenses to.

“The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) must also step up and do its part. They should not wait for disasters to happen before taking action; preventive measures are what we need,” he said.

Mr. Yaro lamented the irreversible loss of lives, noting the devastating impact on families and dependants.

“There is no way we can bring back the lost souls. It is unfortunate because families, children, and others who depended on these victims for survival will now face serious hardship,” he added.

As a representative of the President in the district, Mr. Yaro prayed that such incidents would not recur.

However, the NADMO Director also disclosed that a tow truck which operates in the area have developed fault while operating at Nkorkor, adding that discussions with the Divisional Commander were underway to ensure the vehicle is brought back within the week for further action.
