All set for the ‘Dote yie’ of late Kwatwoma Chief as Traditional council declares a 5-day mourning for late chief

The Kwatwoma Traditional Council has announced a 5-day period of mourning in honor of the late Osabarima Nana Aseidu Kotwi II, the former Chief.

The noble chief is expected to be mourned and buried from January 14 to 18 2026 at Seketia.

In preparation for the 'Dote yie' (royal burial rites), Nana Ama Tafoa, the Queenmother of Kwatwoma, has appealed to the general public to join the community in mourning the loss of their esteemed leader.

She urged the public to respect and adhere to the arrangements made for the funeral, ensuring that the proceedings are carried out smoothly and without any disruptions.

Nana Ama Tafoa revealed that the dress code for the funeral as red and black, symbolizing the community's collective grief and mourning state.

She assured the public that, “The funeral committee has made adequate arrangements for the security of all attendees, and therefore, everyone is encouraged to attend without fear, as tight security measures will be in place.”

Known in private life as Kwaku Borna, Osaberima Kotwi II reigned from 2008 to 2024.

The late Osaberima Aseidu Kotwi II will be laid in state at the Kwatwom Palace, located at Seketia (capital town of Kwatwoma tradional area), where traditional customs will be performed in preparation for his burial.
