A Kia Rhino truck crashed a 36-year-old cabbie to death on the Wenchi-Wa Highway in the Bono Region, in the early hours of Sunday January 18, 2026.
The deceased, Robert Ernest Atta, 36 years, reportedly died on the spot the quantities of lumber loaded in the bucket of the truck, registration number BW 210-20 fell and trapped him in the Matiz Daewoo taxi cab with registration number BA 2878-13.

According to the Divisional Officer Grade Two (DOII), Mr Eric Boateng, the Wenchi Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, the deceased was the only occupant in the taxi cab.
The truck was heading towards Wa in the Upper West Region from Dormaa-Ahenkro while the taxi was also coming from the opposite direction to Wenchi.

He said the Wenchi police had since arrested and placed the driver in police custody as investigations continued, explaining that: “When we got to the scene the deceased was
trapped dead under the woods”, saying the taxi cab was also mangled beyond repairs.
