Dr Philip Ohene Anokye, the Clinical Coordinator at the Chiraa Government Hospital in the Sunyani West Municipality has urged people with hernia, breast tumor and hydrocele to opt for mediate surgeries before their conditions worsened.

He observed that many Ghanaian women had hernia and breast tumor (fibroadenoma), however, lived with those conditions, clandestinely, partly due to public stigmatization warning delayed in seeking surgeries could worsen those conditions and had serious health implications.

Speaking to Sompa FM in an interview in Sunyani on the sidelines of health outreach exercise, Dr Anokye advised especially women with the condition not to feel shy, rather open up to access surgeries.

Mr Seid Mubarak, the Sunyani East Member of Parliament initiated the outreach, partnering the Bono Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Authority and Rafchick clinic, a private health facility to conduct free surgeries for people living with those conditions.

Dr Anokye indicated that hernia remained dangerous and could damage the intestines that could have debilitating effects on people with the condition.

He said the present cost of surgery of those conditions ranged between GHC6,000 and GHC7,000 depending on the condition.

Dr Anokye commended the MP for the health outreach exercise.
