A total of 24 schools have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Sompa Spelling Masters, an educational competition organized by TeraOne Media, operators of SOMPA FM and Television in Sunyani, the Bono regional capital.
The competition, which has received approval from the Bono Regional Education Directorate and the Sunyani East and West Directorates, brings together both public and private basic schools in a bid to promote literacy and academic excellence.
The quarter-finals stage is scheduled to commence on 25th April 2026, where the 24 schools will compete for a spot in the semi-finals.
However, eight schools are expected to advance, with one school achieving the highest overall marks in the quarter finals securing a direct entry into the semi-finals. Two (2) schools each will be evicted from each contest which comprises three school.
In the preliminary stage of the maiden edition of the competition which begun on February 14, a total of 36 schools from both public and private participated, but 24 schools were able to make it through to the quarter finals.
Meanwhile, organizers have scheduled a break in the competition to allow participating schools to prepare for their second-term exams and upcoming vacation, ensuring that students can balance academics with competitive engagement.
TeraOne Media has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing literacy skills, building confidence, and encouraging healthy academic competition among young learners.
