The Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana has refuted claims that the new Toyota Voxy vehicle is unsuitable for long distance travel.

Describing the claims as baseless and unmerited, Nana Asonaba Wiredu, the National Chairman of the Association questioned the consistency of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA)’s position saying that several vehicles like in Voxy were operating in the country.

His comments followed pronouncement of Mr Abraham Amaliba, the Chief Executive Officer of the NRSA that about 7,000 of the Toyota Voxy vehicles brought imported into the country were unsuitable for long journeys.

Mr Amaliba said those vehicles were unsafe commercial transportation and long journeys because they were converted from right-hand to left hand drivee to left-hand drive.

Commenting however, Nana Wiredu told Ama Konadu on the Thursday Edition of the Sunyani-based Sompa FM “Adea Akye Abia” Moring show that the NRSA had no bases for their claims.

Nonetheless, he said stakeholders in the transport sector were presently holding meetings to address the problem.
