C/R: NADMO Envisages Resilient Region with Planned Demolition on Unauthorized Structures Ahead of Raining Season

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Central Region, led by its Regional Director, Mr. Emmanuel Kwesi Dawood Mensah, has outlined plans to demolish unauthorized structures in flood-prone areas as part of proactive measures to prevent disasters ahead of the upcoming rainy season.

‎The move forms part of a broader efforts to build a more resilient region and minimize the devastating impact of perennial flooding on lives and properties.

‎Mr. Emmanuel Kwesi Dawood Mensah relayed this at the closing ceremony of a three-day Leadership and Capacity Building for Metropolitan, Municipal and District (MMDs) Directors and Deputy Directors of NADMO in the Central Region at the Regional Coordinating Council in Cape Coast, themed, "Resetting NADMO for Improved Performance in Disaster Resilience."

‎The Regional NADMO Director remarked that the exercise will target buildings erected on waterways and drainage channels, ramsar sites and wetlands, as well as high-risk flood zones.

‎He established that following this exercise, the agency has segmented the region into five (5) zones with himself leading one part, his Deputy Director in charge of Operations, Colonel George Afful leading another team, the Regional Administrator with another team, and the Head of Disaster also with another team, just to go all out to ensure that unauthorized structures at areas that may contribute to disaster are pulled down.

‎Hon. Queenstar Maame Pokua Sawyerr Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East Constituency and Chairperson of the Local Government and Rural Development Committee of Parliament, having graced the occasion, opined that appointments under NADMO can advance or diminish  political party's formation for government and so it must be handled with extreme care.

‎She noted that the government administration is now stable for the implementation of policies, so all expectations from NADMO will be attended to for the betterment of the country.

‎Hon. Teddy Nana Yaw Addi Safori, the Deputy Director General of Operations for NADMO, stressing on the recent collapse of a church building at Accra Newtown, observed how selfless and dedicated personnel of NADMO are to disasters, as they've sworn to defend their fellow Ghanaians in emergency situations.
