Mr Stevis Kwame Owusu, a visually impaired cocoa farmer at Akroforo in the Berekum Municipality of the Bono Region has described the government as ‘insensitive’ to the plight of cocoa farmers.
He appealed for parliament intervention for the government to pay all their arrears and to enhance their livelihoods and also sustain the farmers in the cocoa business.
Mr Owusu made the appeal when the Minority Caucus in Parliament visited and interacted with the cocoa farmers in the area.
He expressed his frustrations, regretting that presently he could not afford his medical bills, pay his children school fees and provide for the upkeep of his family.
Mr Owusu said his inherited cocoa farm remained the only source of income for his family, lamenting that the government’s inability to pay the cocoa farmers had brought serious economic hardship to his family.
