The Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast in the Central Region, Hon. George Justice Arthur, has announced plans to construct the city’s flagship 24-hour economy market on one of the most vibrant commercial towns within the metropolis, as part of government’s broader push to boost night-time trade and job creation.
Addressing the media after site inspection with engineers and staffs of the Assembly at Ekon where the project commenced on Monday, April 20, 2026, the Mayor said the initiative will extend business hours, improve revenue generation, and provide safer trading space for vendors.
“We are situating our 24-hour economy market at Ekon in the metropolis to serve as a model," he claimed.
Hon. George Justice Arthur emphasized that the location has a good layout system with motorable access road, electricity, as the site is equally litigation free since its a government land.
He observed that the project is expected for completion within three years with its funding sourced from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).
The Mayor hinted that feasibility studies were prioritized by various stakeholders such as MPs for Cape Coast North and South, Traditional Council, the Metropolitan Assembly, among others.
Hon. Justice Arthur established to be his desire for the Cape Coast Metropolis to boost of enough market centres since it will increase revenue generation of the area.
He further admonished that the Assembly seeks to partner with the Ghana Police Service, ECG, and private investors to ensure uninterrupted power, safety, and digital payment systems for traders. Adding that when Cape Coast leads with discipline and innovation, patriotism and prosperity will as well spread out.
