The Central Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. (Mrs.) Juliette Dufie Otami, has urged parents and guardians to provide proper care and emotional support to candidates preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), particularly by ensuring they are well-fed and temporarily relieved of strenuous domestic responsibilities.
According to the GES Director, adequate nutrition, rest, and a conducive learning environment are essential factors that can significantly improve the academic performance of candidates during the examination period.
Addressing the media during a day two monitoring of the examination at the Adisadel College in Cape Coast, the Education Director emphasized that many students experience stress and anxiety while preparing for the BECE, and therefore require encouragement rather than pressure from home.
“Parents should support their children with proper meals, enough rest, and reduce the burden of household chores during this critical period to help them concentrate and perform well,” Dr. Dufie Otami advised.
The Director cautioned against assigning excessive domestic activities such as hawking, farming, and prolonged household duties to candidates, noting that fatigue and inadequate study time could negatively affect their performance.
She further appealed to teachers to continue offering guidance, revision support, and counseling to help students approach the examinations with confidence.
Candidates on their part were advised to remain disciplined, avoid examination malpractice, and adhere strictly to examination regulations set by the West African Examinations Council.
The Director expressed optimism that with collective support from parents, teachers, and stakeholders, candidates in the Central Region would excel in this year’s BECE and contribute positively to the region’s educational performance.
