The District Chief Executive for Atwima Mponua in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Ibrahim Issahak, has distributed waste bins across the district to improve sanitation and stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
The initiative is part of a wider clean-up exercise targeting over eight refuse dump sites in the district. According to Hon. Issahak, the waste bins will be placed at locations where refuse is being evacuated, so residents have a proper place to dispose of waste instead of dumping it on the ground.
"The aim is to evacuate all the refuse dump sites and replace them with these waste bins so people will not dump refuse on the bare ground again," he said.

The DCE explained that the bins will be distributed first to communities with large populations, with plans to extend coverage so that every community in the district receives bins. Once filled, the bins will be collected and the waste transported to the final disposal site to prevent refuse from piling up in public spaces.
Hon. Issahak stressed the importance of a maintenance culture, urging residents and local authorities to ensure the bins are well kept and used properly. He said the exercise is meant to improve both sanitation and public health in the district.
"This is to make Atwima Mponua a cleaner and healthier district," he added.
The distribution is expected to continue until all communities are covered, as part of the assembly’s efforts to make the district cleaner and reduce sanitation-related diseases.
