The District Chief Executive for Atwima Mponua of the Ashanti Region, Hon. Ibrahim Issahak, has called on BECE graduates in the district to use the break after exams to acquire practical skills rather than waste time idly at home.
Speaking after the completion of the Basic Education Certificate Examination today, Hon. Issahak said the assembly is ready to support students interested in learning trades such as seamstress work, carpentry, and masonry.
"For those who want to learn a skill with their hands, the assembly’s doors are open. When you knock, we are ready to help you so that while you wait for your results, you can gain skills that will secure your future and keep you away from social vices," he said.
The DCE advised graduates to stay disciplined, avoid bad friends, and steer clear of drugs, warning that drug abuse can destroy their future careers. He also cautioned them against seeing themselves as fully grown adults just because they have completed junior high school.
"You are not mature enough yet. Humble yourselves before your parents and continue to live a disciplined life. Secondary school demands even more discipline, so start now," he advised.
Hon. Issahak further urged parents to keep a close watch on their children and treat them well during this transition period. He stressed that portraying good behavior now will prepare students for the next stage of their education.
The assembly’s call forms part of efforts to engage young people productively, reduce youth involvement in social vices, and build a stronger foundation for the district’s future workforce.
