The chiefs and people of Amomaso and Benkasa farming communities in the Berekum West District of the Bono region have vowed to resist any mining activity, either illegal or legal.
They cautioned prospective community mining companies and illegal miners to rescind their decisions to mine in those communities or face their wrath.
Addressing a joint news conference at Berekum, Mathew Oluman an opinion leader at Amomaso and spokesperson said that the community members had had information about a mining company planning to commence operations in the communities on Monday June 1, 2026.
He said a mining company had already mounted billboards and intending to begin operations in the communities, though the traditional authorities were unaware about their licenses and concessions.
Nana Konadu Mmuro II, the Chief of Benkasa, said that Benkasa was a predominantly agricultural community with the community members depended largely on farming for their sustenance and livelihood.
He said that: "Our arable farmlands can't host any mining activity" and called for the government's intervention.
