The District Chief Executive for Atwima Mponua in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Ibrahim Issahak, says the government is steadily addressing long-standing challenges facing Muslim communities, with the recent payment of allowances to Arabic and Islamic “Makaranta” teachers as a key example.

Speaking during the Eid Al-Adha celebrations, Hon. Issahak said the move demonstrates that the NDC government under President John Dramani Mahama is following through on its promise to make Islamic education part of the national education agenda.

“For years, Makaranta teachers have taught our children without any formal support from the state. Now, government has started paying them allowances. This is a big relief for the teachers and for the parents who rely on these schools,” he explained.

According to the DCE, the intervention is expected to improve morale among teachers, reduce the financial burden on Islamic schools, and encourage more parents to enroll their children in Makaranta education without worrying about costs. He noted that the policy aligns with broader efforts to ensure no community is left behind in national development.

Hon. Issahak added that the payment is only one part of a wider plan. Government is also engaging Muslim leaders and stakeholders to identify other priority areas, including infrastructure, youth employment, and access to social services in Muslim-dominated communities.

On the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, he urged Muslim youth to celebrate responsibly and uphold discipline.

He cautioned against over-jubilation, taking the law into their own hands, and allowing themselves to be used to cause violence.

The DCE concluded by thanking the government for listening to the concerns of the Muslim community and assured that Atwima Mponua District will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the benefits reach those who need them most.
