The Bono Regional Police command is investigating the murder of an 87-year-old retired veterinary officer.
According to a police statement, the lifeless body of Alhaji Abdulai Toure, a native of Berekum was discovered at New Japan, a suburb of Sampa, in the Jaman North District of the region on Monday, June 1, 2026. The body was found near a public cemetery with multiple gunshot wounds, the statement signed by Chief Inspector

A copy of the statement made available to Sompa FM in Sunyani said the police received information about the discovery of the lifeless body. The police
proceeded to the scene and found the body lying face down and wearing blue and white striped lace clothing, and a wristwatch, but was barefooted.
It said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had earlier reported to police some unidentified persons had set his (deceased) house at Sampa and Opel Kadett vehicle ablaze.
"The deceased boarded a passenger bus with registration number AS 9859-14 from the Sampa lorry station to Berekum", saying that: "After departure the driver stopped at a nearby vulcanizer to inflate a tyre", it added.
The statement added that: "While the tyre was being inflated, four young men identified only as Abode, Mepawokyew, Alaska and Baala entered the vehicle".
It said the four young men allegedly struggled with the deceased, pulled him out of the bus, forced him into a waiting auto rickshaw, popularly known as "pragya",
and drove toward the cemetery area on the Kokoa road. The police conducted a thorough search at the scene and retrieved five spent AAA cartridge casings and three spent BBB cartridge casings, suggesting that
the deceased was shot and killed by the young men. It said the body had since been deposited at the Sampa Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, saying that one Siaka Yahaya, a 45-year-
