The Ghana Forestry Commission has officially launched the 2026 Tree for Life Initiative, a nationwide reforestation campaign aimed at restoring degraded lands, creating employment opportunities, and promoting environmental sustainability across the country.

Speaking at the commemorative tree-planting exercise marking the launch of the initiative, the Minister for Land and Natural Resources, Hon. Kofi Armah Buah called on Ghanaians to support efforts to protect the nation's natural resources by avoiding deforestation and actively participating in reforestation activities.

He commended President John Dramani Mahama for championing the Tree for Life Initiative, noting that the programme will not only help restore Ghana's forest cover but also create jobs and livelihood opportunities for many citizens.

According to him, preserving forests and planting more trees are critical steps in addressing climate change, protecting biodiversity, and ensuring a healthier and more sustainable environment for future generations.

He further urged Ghanaians to take ownership of the initiative by nurturing planted trees and safeguarding forest resources rather than engaging in activities that destroy them.

The Tree for Life Initiative forms part of Ghana's broader environmental conservation agenda and seeks to encourage collective action towards building a greener and more resilient nation.
