Mr Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive in the Ahafo Region says the assembly would soon demolish unauthorized structures and buildings on waterways and flood-prone areas in the municipality. He said the assembly would not compromise as it worked to prevent flooding and destruction of properties in the rainy season.

Mr Frimpong warned estate developers and property owners whose properties were situated on waterways and unauthorized places to remove them.

He gave the directive in an interview with the media at Bechem on the sidelines of a clean-up exercise to mark the Municipal observance of the 2026 National Sanitation Day.

The MCE explained that protecting lives and properties remained an utmost priority, saying that it was better an illegal structure than risk the lives of thousands of residents.

Mr Sulley Malik, the Tano South Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) commended residents for their massive participation in the cleanup exercise, saying that the National Sanitation Day was contributing significantly towards waste management and environmental cleanliness.

He urged residents, traders and business operators in the area to continue supporting the Assembly's sanitation efforts by ensuring proper waste disposal and also keeping their surroundings clean at all times
