The Kontihene of Akropong, Osahene Boafo Ansah III, has called on the people of Akuapem to embrace peace, unity, and togetherness as they commemorate the 200th anniversary of the historic Odwira Festival.

Speaking during the Odwira at 200 celebrations at Akropong, Osahene Boafo Ansah III emphasized that the lessons of the 1826 Katamansu War should inspire the current generation to value peace rather than conflict.

Reflecting on the sacrifices of their ancestors, he questioned the consequences of war in modern times, stressing that violence affects everyone involved.

"If that war were to happen today, do we believe that only our enemies would suffer from the gunshots? Certainly not. Some of us would also be affected.

That is why we must learn from the wisdom of our ancestors and uphold the values they left behind love, unity, and togetherness," he stated.

The Krontihene explained that the bicentenary celebration was designed not only to honour the bravery of the forefathers of Akuapem but also to educate younger generations and the wider world about the rich cultural heritage of the Akuapem people.

According to him, the commemoration serves as a reminder of the courage, sacrifices, and unity that enabled their ancestors to triumph during the historic war.

"Today’s programme is to let the world witness what our ancestors accomplished. We must remember the legacy they left behind and continue to live as one people," he said.

Osahene Boafo Ansah III urged all chiefs and residents of Akuapem to maintain the spirit of unity beyond the celebrations.
"Let us live in love. Let us be one people. We should see ourselves as one town and one family, just as our forefathers did.

Togetherness is the foundation of Okuapeman progress," he urged.
He also outlined a series of activities scheduled as part of the Odwira at 200 celebrations, including engagements with various traditional divisions and a grand finale at the National Theatre in Accra.

The Krontihene disclosed that the Konti Division would bear the expenses associated with the National Theatre event to ensure its successful organization.

Expressing gratitude to the Okuapehene, Osahene Boafo Ansah III pledged the unwavering support of the traditional leadership.
"Nana, we thank you and assure you that we will always stand by you. We will continue to be your shield and work together to ensure that Okuapeman becomes even greater," he affirmed.

The Odwira at 200 celebration forms part of efforts to preserve Akuapem's cultural heritage while promoting unity and development among its people.
