The Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has called on African leaders to take decisive action against the resurgence of xenophobic violence in South Africa, warning that the attacks threaten the core ideals of Pan-Africanism and African unity.

Sighted on official Facebook page of Parliament, presenting a statement on the floor of Parliament, the South Dayi legislator expressed concern over increasing incidents of violence and hostility directed at fellow Africans living in the Republic of South Africa. 

He noted that such developments undermine the continent's long-held vision of unity, solidarity, and the free movement of people.

According to Mr. Dafeamekpor, Africa cannot continue to advocate for continental integration while many Africans are forced to live in fear and insecurity in other African countries.

He stressed that the ideals of Pan-Africanism require more than rhetoric, urging African leaders to match their commitments with concrete measures to protect citizens across the continent.

To address the challenge, the MP proposed the establishment of an African Union early warning and response mechanism to identify and tackle xenophobic violence before it escalates into wider conflicts.

"The time has come for African leaders to act decisively in safeguarding the rights and security of all Africans, regardless of where they reside on the continent," he emphasized.

Mr. Dafeamekpor warned that failure to address xenophobia could erode the principles of unity and cooperation that underpin Africa's development agenda and weaken efforts towards greater continental integration.

He therefore called on African governments and regional bodies to work together to ensure that every African can live, work, and move freely across the continent without fear of discrimination or violence.
