W/R: Responsible Cooperative Mining Scheme to be launched in Jomoro on June 27. ‎

The Responsible Cooperative Mining Scheme,(rCOMSDEP,) is set to be officially inaugurated on June 27, 2026, in the locality of Apatase, which falls within the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region of Ghana. 

‎This inauguration marks an essential milestone within the larger context of efforts aimed at promoting responsible and sustainable small-scale mining practices across the nation of Ghana, reflecting a growing recognition of the need for environmentally sound and community-focused mining initiatives.

‎This highly anticipated event is expected to attract a diverse group of attendees, including esteemed government officials, respected traditional leaders, various stakeholders from the mining industry, and engaged community members, all gathering together to celebrate the launch of this pivotal initiative.

‎ The primary goal of rCOMSDEP is to foster cooperative mining while simultaneously ensuring the protection of the environment and the development of local communities, thus promoting a holistic approach to resource management.

‎Among the key figures attending the ceremony will be President John Dramani Mahama, who is expected to honor the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour, adding significant prestige to the event.

‎ He will be accompanied by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, whose involvement will be crucial as he undertakes a pivotal role in the inauguration proceedings, reflecting the importance of governmental support for this initiative.

‎Furthermore, the event will see the attendance of other notable dignitaries including Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, as well as Dorcas Affo-Toffey, the Deputy Minister for Transport and a Member of Parliament for Jomoro, alongside Ama Mawusi Mawuenyefia, who is the National Coordinator for the initiative. 

‎Their presence underscores the broad support for the scheme from various sectors of the government and local governance.

‎The scheme is designed to establish a well structured framework for cooperative mining operations, with the aim of enhancing compliance with existing mining regulations. 

‎It seeks to create valuable employment opportunities for the local populace while promoting environmentally responsible mining practices within the host communities, thereby ensuring that the benefits of mining activities extend beyond mere economic gain.

‎Organisers emphasize that the launch of rCOMSDEP represents a substantial step forward in the government’s overarching agenda to formalize the small-scale mining sector in Ghana, which, in turn, is expected to improve the livelihoods of many individuals while ensuring that the nation's mineral resources are harnessed in a manner that contributes meaningfully to both local and national development initiatives.
